FAQ & Fees: Common Questions
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I am trained and qualified to diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health issues. I currently offer individual therapy for adults, aged 18 and older. I may see teenagers, on an individual basis, depending on their unique situation. I do not provide marriage, relationship or family therapy.
I currently offer teletherapy only as a supplemental option for established clients who are regularly attending in-person therapy. From my experience, in-person therapy is much more effective due to its holistic potential to foster deeper connections, offer more comprehensive assessment, and allow for a much broader range of therapeutic modalities. Simply, I believe the diversity of human relationships and communication cannot be emulated from behind a screen.
$200 per 50-minute session (clinical hour)
$100- Appointment cancelled or rescheduled without at least 24-hour notice (excluding emergencies)
Payments are due at the time of service and can be made via credit card, debit card, FSA card or HAS card. An active card must be kept on file during treatment; cash and checks are not accepted.
While I do need to make a livable income and cover the expenses of owning a business, I never want finances to be a barrier for anyone in need of mental health support. Whenever possible, I offer a limited number of reduced fee spots. I also work with my clients to establish creative solutions to make my services more accessible.
Possibly, yes! Many of my clients use their insurance to help cover the cost of therapy. I am not in-network with any insurance providers, but I do provide documentation for clients to submit to their insurance company for reimbursement (these are called ‘Superbills’). Many plans offer out-of-network benefits, so I encourage you to contact your insurance company to inquire about your specific benefits. Please note that using out-of-network benefits typically requires a mental health diagnosis. I cannot guarantee that every client will qualify for and receive a diagnosis. Please also note that a mental health diagnosis becomes part of your medical records and may be assessed by certain employers and life insurance companies. When it comes to utilizing your insurance, or not, I encourage you to make an informed, empowered decision that is right for you!
Current clients can reschedule appointments at my office, following their counseling sessions. Appointment requests can also be made by messaging through the client portal or by calling or texting me @ (906)239-9918. Those interested in my services must fill out the ‘Request an Appointment’ form on my website. Questions can be also be sent via email to jen@morninglarkhealing.com.
My goal is to support your growth and ultimately help you transition out of therapy. My job is essentially to get myself fired (appropriately and for the right reasons) as quickly as possible. Progress toward your goals depends on many factors, including your willingness to engage, openness to growth, and session frequency. In implementing a non-pathological, functional approach to treating the whole person, I am noticing that time in therapy is shorter and people are getting better sooner. On the other hand, long-term psycho-analysis (chewing on the same issues over and over) has proven to be very insufficient. The approach of compassionate Inquiry, combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/Mindfulness (the root of all illness is in the mind) and Somatic Sensory Therapy (we must feel to heal), penetrates to the heart of issues quickly and effectively, resulting in true healing.
I often get asked why I named my practice “Morning Lark”. The lark bird (called the horned lark in Michigan), while nothing special in appearance, has a very important job. The lark bird sings in the early morning hours, 1-2 hours before sunrise; announcing the coming of the morning light. “God is light”, John 1:15. Therefore, this tiny, seemingly insignificant bird, literally announces the presence of the divine each new morning. Light has the power to heal both physical and psychological wounds. I often tell clients; what is in the light heals. This is the very essence of talk therapy—bringing our struggles (often hidden in darkness by shame)—into the light, reveals and heals them. Sunlight is the best medicine; nature-based biohacking at its finest!
You have inherent value and worth and you matter very much.
