About Morning Lark
Hello! My name is Jen, owner of Morning Lark, Functional Psychotherapy and Holistic Healing. I am a Board-Certified Professional Counselor and a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. I have over 12 years of experience working in the private practice sector.
I specialize in a functional "root cause" psychotherapy approach to helping people heal deep psychological wounds and imprints from childhood. Chronic stress and anxiety, nervous system dysregulation, unresolved trauma, malnourishment and spiritual starvation have a significant impact on our health and often show up in our bodies as chronic illnesses; autoimmune diseases, cancer, IBS, fibromyalgia and, also, as mental ailments; chronic depression, anxiety, PTSD and emotional dysregulation.
Modern medicine seeks to suppress symptoms and kill our body's messengers. I seek to help people trust their intuition and to listen to the wisdom their body expresses. The more we violate the natural rhythms of nature, the sicker we become. I advocate for food, movement and mindset as medicine and help people heal and restore their body back to its natural order.
By treating the whole person and teaching people to understand their symptoms as the body’s expression of wisdom and intelligence, I am better able to help people restore their sense of agency and take an empowering approach to their own healing. The body has an amazing ability to protect and heal itself and it is always working for us, not against us!
Functional psychotherapy is an approach aimed at healing the mind, body, soul (psyche) and spirit. It is a holistic approach aimed toward treating the root cause of illness or conditions, based on the idea that the body’s systems are interconnected and are always working together. I help people get to the root cause of their suffering; instead of solely focusing on symptom control and coping. I refuse to pathologize every symptom and seek to honor the whole person. The human experience is a beautiful, yet messy and complicated one. By oversimplifying and putting labels on it, we cheapen the experience and create unnecessary suffering. I believe that treatment must go beyond a focus on symptoms and diagnosis to address the causes of dysfunction from a bio-psycho-social perspective.
It is an honor and a privilege to listen and speak into the lives of others; one that I do not take lightly. If you think you may benefit from this approach, I’d be honored to work with you.
Jen
